Terms of Service
Effective 13 October 2026 | Version 2026-10-13
These Terms explain the rules for using Njiwa: who can join, how tasks, reviews and payments work, what rights you give us in what you submit, and how you can leave at any time. Please read them together with our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your voice and other personal data.
1. The agreement
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Njiwa ("we", "us"). They govern your use of the Njiwa app at https://app.njiwa.tech and our website at https://njiwa.tech (together, the "Service").
You accept these Terms by ticking the box when you create an account, or by using the Service. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data, and forms part of these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. Who can use the Service
- You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter a binding contract.
- You must give accurate information and keep it up to date, including your email address and payout details.
- You may have only one account. Accounts are personal: do not share yours or use anyone else's.
- You are responsible for making sure that doing paid work through the Service is lawful where you live, including any tax registration or work permission you need.
- You must not use the Service if you are barred from receiving payments or services under applicable sanctions laws.
3. Your account
Keep your password secure and tell us straight away at support@njiwa.tech if you think someone else has accessed your account. You are responsible for activity on your account unless it results from our failure to keep the Service secure.
4. How the Service works
Roles. When you join, you choose to be a contributor (you complete tasks, for example by recording your voice or writing text) or a reviewer (you check other people's submissions). Your role is fixed once chosen; contact us if you need it changed.
Languages. You choose the languages you can work in. You will only be offered tasks and reviews in those languages, plus English. Only declare languages you can genuinely read, write and speak well.
Training and trials. Before doing paid work, you complete short training modules and one unpaid trial. Contributors' trials are reviewed by reviewers; reviewers' trials are scored against a reference answer. You can retake a trial you did not pass.
Tasks. Each task shows its instructions, language, estimated time and payment before you start. We may add, change, pause or remove tasks at any time, and we do not guarantee any amount of work or earnings.
5. Rules for contributions
Everything you submit (a "Contribution") must:
- be your own live voice or your own writing, produced by you for that task;
- not be generated, altered or cloned with AI or voice-changing tools, and not be produced by machine translation, unless the task explicitly allows it;
- not contain anyone else's voice unless the task asks for it and that person has agreed in writing to these Terms and our Privacy Policy;
- not include real personal details (yours or anyone else's) such as full names, addresses, phone or ID numbers, unless the task asks for fictional examples;
- not copy text, songs or recordings that belong to someone else;
- not contain unlawful, hateful, harassing, sexually explicit or violent content, unless the task explicitly requires such material for safety research and says so;
- follow the task instructions and the training guidelines.
Before you can submit Contributions, you must also give the separate consent described in section 4 of the Privacy Policy. That consent is optional, but we cannot accept Contributions without it.
6. Review and acceptance
Each Contribution is reviewed independently by at least two reviewers who work in its languages. It is accepted or rejected when two votes agree. Our staff may also accept or reject a Contribution, for example when a decision is stuck or a review was clearly wrong. You will see the reasons given for a rejection.
If you think a decision was wrong, tell us at support@njiwa.tech within 30 days. We will look at it again; our decision after that review is final for payment purposes.
7. Payment
- Payment amounts are shown in US dollars before you start a task. Trials are unpaid.
- When you submit paid work, the payment is shown as pending. It moves to your confirmed balance if the Contribution is accepted, and is cancelled if it is rejected.
- Reviewers earn 10% of a task's payment for each vote that matches the final decision. Votes that do not match earn nothing.
- You can withdraw your confirmed balance once it reaches $5.00. The amount is deducted when you request the withdrawal, and refunded if we cannot complete it.
- We pay to the method and account details you give us. Check them carefully; we are not responsible for payments sent to details you provided incorrectly. Third-party fees or currency conversion charged by payment providers may reduce the amount you receive.
- If we reasonably suspect fraud or a breach of these Terms, we may hold a payment while we investigate, and we may cancel earnings, or recover payments, that were obtained through fraud or breach.
- If your account is closed for any reason other than fraud or a serious breach, we will pay out your confirmed balance, even if it is below the minimum.
Independent status and taxes. You work through the Service as an independent contractor, not as our employee, worker, agent or partner. You choose whether and when to work. You are responsible for any taxes, social contributions or reporting due on your earnings, unless the law requires us to withhold them. We may ask for tax information where the law requires it.
8. Rights in your Contributions
You keep any ownership rights you have in your Contributions. In return for the payments described above, you grant Njiwa a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable and sublicensable licence to:
- store, copy, edit (for example trim, normalise or segment), transcribe, translate, label and otherwise annotate your Contributions;
- combine them with other data into datasets, and distribute and license those datasets to third parties;
- use them, and allow licensees to use them, to research, develop, train, test and improve AI, machine learning and language technology products and services.
This licence lasts for as long as your consent to the use of your Contributions remains in place, including after you close your account. If you withdraw consent, by emailing privacy@njiwa.tech, the licence ends for any new use. Licences we granted to customers before your withdrawal continue, subject to our commitment to ask those customers to delete your Contributions where reasonably feasible, and AI models already trained on your Contributions can continue to be used. Section 11 of the Privacy Policy explains this in detail.
You consent to your voice performance being used as described in this section. To the extent the law allows, you waive, or agree not to assert, any moral rights or performers' rights that would prevent those uses, such as a right to be named as the speaker. Datasets do not identify contributors by name.
You confirm that you have the right to grant this licence, and that your Contributions do not infringe anyone else's rights.
9. Additional rules for reviewers
- Treat every submission as confidential. Do not download, record, copy, screenshot or share submissions, or use them for any purpose other than reviewing them on the Service.
- Judge each submission honestly against the published review standards, and listen to recordings in full.
- Do not review the work of people you know personally, and do not coordinate votes with other reviewers.
- If you come across a submission that contains someone's personal details or harmful content, reject it and tell us.
10. Things you must not do
- Create more than one account, or use bots, scripts or automation to complete tasks or reviews.
- Misrepresent your identity, age or language abilities.
- Manipulate reviews or payouts, including through collusion, or exploit bugs to gain money. Report bugs to us instead.
- Access the Service other than through the interfaces we provide, or scrape, probe, disrupt or reverse engineer it.
- Harass, threaten or abuse anyone, including our staff.
- Use the Service in breach of any law.
11. Businesses and dataset customers
Submitting the access request form on our website does not create a contract. Licences for our datasets are governed by a separate written agreement, which includes restrictions that protect contributors, such as bans on re-identifying contributors or cloning their voices. If that agreement conflicts with these Terms, it applies to the customer's use of datasets.
12. Closing your account, suspension and termination
By you. You can stop using the Service at any time, and close your account under Privacy and data in the app. Closing your account does not withdraw your consent or delete your Contributions. To do that, email privacy@njiwa.tech, as explained in section 11 of the Privacy Policy.
By us. We may suspend or close your account if you breach these Terms, if we reasonably suspect fraud, if the law requires it, or if we stop offering the Service. Where reasonable, we will tell you the reason in advance and give you a chance to respond. If we stop offering the Service entirely, we will give at least 30 days' notice.
When an account closes, sections 8 (subject to your consent choices), 9 and 14 to 18 continue to apply, along with any payment owed under section 7.
13. Changes to the Service and these Terms
We may update these Terms, for example to reflect new features or legal requirements. We will tell you about material changes by email or in the app at least 30 days before they take effect, unless a change is required sooner by law or to address a security risk. You will be asked to accept the updated Terms before you can keep working. If you do not agree, you can close your account and we will pay out your confirmed balance. Changes never extend the uses of your Contributions without your consent.
14. Disclaimers
We work to keep the Service available and accurate, but it is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we do not promise that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any amount of work or earnings will be available. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that cannot be excluded.
15. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows:
- we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss of profits, opportunity or data, that were not a reasonably foreseeable result of our breach;
- our total liability to you for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the total amount we paid you in the 12 months before the claim arose, or USD 100.
These limits do not apply to amounts we owe you for accepted work, or to liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, wilful misconduct, or anything else that cannot be limited by law.
16. Responsibility for your Contributions
If someone brings a claim against us because a Contribution you submitted broke these Terms, for example by including another person's voice without their consent or copying someone else's work, you agree to cover the reasonable losses and costs we incur, to the extent the law allows and in proportion to your responsibility.
17. Disputes
Please contact us first at legal@njiwa.tech so we can try to resolve any dispute informally. If it is not resolved within 30 days, either of us can take it further.
If you are a consumer, nothing in these Terms takes away the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim in your local courts where those laws give you that right.
18. General
- These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service.
- If a court finds part of these Terms unenforceable, the rest stays in effect.
- If we do not enforce a right straight away, we can still enforce it later.
- We may transfer this agreement to a successor business, which must keep these commitments, including those protecting your Contributions. You may not transfer it without our written agreement.
- We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control.
- We may send you notices by email to the address on your account, or in the app. You can send notices to us by email.
- If these Terms are translated, the English version prevails where the law allows.
